Cleansing, exfoliating, matting - and where is the place to moisturize? One of the biggest myths about caring for oily skin is the belief that moisturizing creams can only worsen skin condition. According to supporters of this thesis, moisturizing skin that is already moist and oily seems stupid. And yet oily skin needs an adequate dose of water. Absolutely every type of skin requires hydration, as water is essential for its proper functioning.

Before we tell you about how you can moisturize oily skin with the use of cosmetics, it's time for a handful of facts about your skin.

In case of oily skin, the sebaceous glands produce an excessive amount of sebum, i.e. more than the amount needed by your skin to cover its needs for this substance, necessary to maintain resistance to bacterial, fungal and viral infections. The overproduction of sebum is often associated with oily skin, and there are also problems with acne. However, this is not a rule, as we will talk about later in this article.

Although the care of oily skin is not the easiest one, it also has its advantages - owners of oily skin start to see the first wrinkles much later than their friends with dry skin. This is a scientifically proven fact!

Unfortunately, there is a lot of contradictory information about the care of oily skin. Some people scrub their face in every free moment, believing that only in this way will they be able to finally clean it properly. Others attack their skin with exfoliating alcohol-based cosmetics, hoping that what is ugly and greasy will fall off along with the epidermis weakened by excessive peeling. Oh my! We will not list any more magical rituals. All such ideas lead to the formation of oily, dehydrated skin, acne and inflammation.

Balance is the key to success in the fight against excess sebum

There is no one ready-made recipe for getting rid of the problem of oily skin. However, we can tell you with full responsibility what you should not do and what substances to avoid, so as not to worsen the condition of your skin. We’ll also tell you which cosmetics from our Skin79 store are worth your attention.

In caring of oily skin, the most important thing is to balance the secretion and removal of excess sebum.

Part of the sebum must be removed, but the stratum corneum must not be completely deprived of lipid substances, because then the aforementioned dehydrated oily skin can easily develop. Often, already in the first step of skin care, i.e. cleansing the skin, some people make many mistakes and, as a result, deteriorate their skin condition. When washing oily skin, avoid the use of very aggressive washing, antiseptic and degreasing agents. These types of products disrupt the bacterial flora of your skin because they change its pH from acid to alkaline. So, when you use these types of cosmetics, your skin begins to defend itself against excessive dryness and irritation, and as a defense mechanism, the sebaceous glands begin to produce even more sebum. What does this mean in practice? Despite cleansing, the skin becomes even more oily and glowing. Oh no!

The physiological bacterial flora of the skin is its natural defense mechanism. Therefore, it should not be removed or damaged by improper skin care, because its disappearance exposes our skin to attacks of pathogenic bacteria, and thus leads to various skin diseases. Therefore, you should not focus on constantly removing sebum, but on ensuring its quality and maintaining bacterial balance, so as not to cause acne lesions. As we mentioned at the beginning of this article - not every person with oily skin will have acne. So, seborrhea can exist without acne. If the sebum has the correct composition, thanks to which it flows freely from the sebaceous glands, then the phenomenon of abnormal keratinization (keratosis) and excessive development of the bacterial flora will not occur. There is also no transformation of oily skin into acne.

Moisturizing, moisturizing and once again moisturizing...

Oily skin, even acne-prone skin, also needs hydration. It's a fact! If you do not use moisturizing creams, you increase the risk of inflammation, acne and accelerate the aging of your skin.

Dry skin is not protected against external factors and loses its natural regenerative capacity. Therefore, pimples disappear much slower and leave unsightly marks. Moisturizing the skin is the most important skin care process, especially when using cleansing and exfoliating agents.

Of course, not every moisturizer is suitable for oily and problematic skin. This is another fact that we want to draw your attention to. Perhaps you have read or heard about the fact that oily skin should also be moisturized, full of hope you applied a moisturizing cream borrowed from your sister, who has such a dry skin that she certainly uses the most powerful moisturizing available on the market. The next day, looking in the mirror, instead of a healthy skin, you saw a face with even more imperfections than before using this highly recommended moisturizing cream. You thought that moisturizing creams weren't for you after all and went back to exfoliating and mattifying your skin.

Don't worry - we have a couple of moisturizing creams and gels for you that will work for oily and problematic skin. The most important feature that connects all these cosmetics is a light texture that ensures quick absorption of active substances and the lack of an oily film that further enhances the shine of the skin.
